Memorial Day

memorial day

Memorial Day is a federal holiday in the United States for remembering the men and women who died while serving in the country’s armed forces. The holiday, which is celebrated every year on the final Monday of May, was formerly known as Decoration Day and originated after the American Civil War to commemorate the Union andConfederate soldiers who died in the war. By the 20th century, Memorial Day had been extended to honor all Americans who have died while in the military service. It typically marks the start of the summer vacation season, while Labor Day marks its end.

Many people visit cemeteries and memorials, particularly to honor those who have died in military service. Many volunteers place an American flag on each grave in national cemeteries.  -Wikipedia

Whatever you are doing this weekend – whether it be gathering with family and friends to have a picnic or bbq, working on projects around the house, or just taking it easy, let’s remember what the day has been set aside for.  Let’s remember and honor the veterans of this country – those men and women who have served, sacrificed, and suffered to provide and keep the freedom we enjoy in this nation.  Let’s remember and honor them.  Let’s support them and never forget the price freedom cost our country.

God Bless America!

And bless you for a wonderful post about all the military that have died while in service of their country.
I’m very thankful to have my husband. He was in Air Force, he had to leave for Nam on 12/26/68, we got married on 11/30/68. He was in Jolly Greens, the helicopter rescue squadron that picked up shot down pilots on other side of DMZ. He was one of guys who operated the winch to bring people up to chopper. If pilot not able to get on basket or hoist hubs would have to go down and put person on. God bless them all

    • God bless them all indeed. The loyalty and love they showed to the people of our nation is just amazing. That they would sacrifice their lives so the future generations could live in a great, free nation. Awesome.

  3. It’s so nice to read a post for what the holiday is really about – there’s more than enough sites on how to decorate for it and not nearly enough on what it stands for.
    Much love,

    • Thanks Suzan! We watched the parade that goes by our house every year. And we’ve been watching some documentaries on tv about some of the different wars that have been fought. So sobering to be reminded just what it cost for us to live in the freedom and luxury we have right now.

  4. Amen! God Bless our Heroes.
    Have a good week.
