Christmas Decor and Furniture – 3 years ago

The past couple of years I’ve been playing musical furniture.  I gave away my matching set (couch and love seat) when the piano entered the scene.  Since then I’ve been on a quest to recreate a look I love.  I slip covered a Craigslist-find couch with drop cloth fabric.  I bought another couch and matching chair at my Grandma’s auction.  Both were a vintage gold/green color.  Nothing matched but I didn’t have time to work on it.  And I wasn’t quite sure what I wanted.
And then I remembered this Christmas 3 years ago.  I was happy with my house and my decor that year.

I realized I missed that furniture from 3 years ago – not the actual furniture but the fact that it was WHITE.  I had slipcovered those couches and a chair and I loved the all white.

The drop cloth fabric I used to slip cover the couch we bought to replace the one we gave away, wasn’t pure white.

And every house out there in blogland that I swooned over was WHITE.  I needed to get my house back to more white.

This was the only piece back then that wasn’t white.  I thought about slip covering it but really wanted to reupholster it.  I stripped it down a year or so ago and it sat neglected for months.  I finally took it to the Springfield flea this past fall and sold it to a lady who was excited about giving it a new life.

And the whole room three years ago.  I still love what it looked like then.  I’m still glad I gave that furniture away though – it was just too big to fit with a piano added to the mix.

This year I finally have my all WHITE look back.  I made some slipcovers out of pure white fabric.  I gave away the couch that was slip covered in the drop cloth that wasn’t pure white.  I still have some tweaking to do – I would like to add a bit more furniture.  Either a large leather chair like my husband has always wanted or a couple smaller leather chairs.  But for now I’m just happy to have it white again.  And no, I don’t worry about stuff happening to my white.  White is so washable.  If all else fails – bleach it.  And it doesn’t get as dirty as fast as you would think.  I’ll be posting about my living room furniture soon.  For now I hope you enjoyed the stroll down memory lane through my house as it looked 3 years ago.

And those windows!  The trim went on them last year – this year there are FINALLY shutters hanging at them – working shutters!  I’ll be showing you some details of those soon too!

  3. By the time Christmas gets here I’m going to know the words in all the movies I’ve seen since Nov. 1st. on Hallmark, Hallmark movie channel and Lifetime. Course nobody is making me watch but I find myself watching them avidly.
Love your home Jill. It’s so welcoming and homey looking. Didn’t think I’d ever appreciate white so much since I’m a big color nut but I did love how it looks. Don’t think the white would work for us with our big black hairy dog and orange striped shedding kitty. I’m a bit messy eating on the couch. We don’t have an eating area so we have to eat in living room all the time. We tried having table/chairs and buffet hutch in our mud room but no room to move around. I miss having a nice dining area. Our house in KY had a nice sized dining room right next to kitchen. Still miss that house and the land around it, we had 1 1/2 acres with old trees, grass, the whole bit out in the country, so pretty and green all the time.
Been a little while since I got a post from you, have missed you.
Well the big black dog has come in for me to go to bed so I’d better go brush teeth, take my pills and snuggle down. Wishing you and yours a wonderful happy, healthy Christmas.

  4. I love what you have done – especially with the french horn over the Last Supper!
