This morning I sit in the semi-darkness, sipping a cup of hot coffee, and enjoy the silence.  Just a few minutes ago the house was ablaze with light and the noise level was almost deafening.  2 little girls were given baths by Mom (they usually do it themselves so this was a flashback sort of morning for Mom – a flashback to just a few years ago when every morning began with baths for the babies/toddlers)  Those 2 little girls, who really aren’t so little anymore but Mom is trying to deny the fact, had packed their clothes last night, and laid out their outfits for today.

my girls (2 of 1)

This morning as they dressed for the day, the excitement level was high.  Today they left with Grandpa and Grandma for a 3-day stay in Holmes County.  God bless the Grandparents who invite their 3 active Granddaughters on a trip they could have taken by themselves – for wanting to include the noise, chatter, drama, and dynamics of 3 sisters when they could have had a peaceful getaway by themselves.  Yes, 3 – all 3 of my precious daughters left with their Grandparents this morning.  My dear teenager got herself up at 5:30 to take a shower and wash her hair and finish packing and get all ready for a fun time with Grandma and Grandpa.  She’s becoming such a sweet lovely young lady so quickly!  If you  have read my blog for very long you will probably shake your head with a smile and think ‘I told you so’ or something like that when you read my praise of my Teenager!  It hasn’t been that long ago that she was a Pre-teen who made me want to pull my hair out and I was certain I was going to have to send to boarding school somewhere!!  But we made it through and she is becoming one of my best friends.  I can’t wait to see what the next few years hold for her!

Isn’t she beautiful?  I know I’m a bit biased but hey, after getting through the Pre-teen years with her I am so proud to call her my beautiful Teenager!  I love you so much Emma!

As for the other two little munchkins, they really aren’t so ‘little’ anymore.  At 10 and almost 8 we are hitting the Pre-teen years a bit early and with a bang.  With these 2 closer in age I get a double dose of everything.  And I will still say the Pre-teen age isn’t my favorite by any stretch of the imagination.  But you gotta love them anyway – because besides being your kids and you have to love them no matter what, they are pretty cute and they do have their times when they are so much fun – and yes some of those times are when they are not sleeping!! LOL! :D  I love you Larke and Becca!

pouffes (8 of 8)

I’m gonna miss them the next 3 days, I know I will.  But I’m also going to soak up the silence and enjoy that too.  I’m going to clean up my house and enjoy it staying that way for a couple of days!  I’m going to fit a bride for her wedding dress.  I’m going to create some new things to take to a ‘Trunk Show’ I am doing in Columbus in a couple of weeks.  I’m going to write some blog posts.  I’m going to plan for our family vacation we have coming up in a few weeks.  I’m going to ship a pouffe off to a client.  I’m going to organize some more of my sewing room.  If you follow me on Instagram you have seen the armoire I bought and painted to use for storage.  I’m going to relax a bit here and there if I can.  I may read a book.  I will practice my piano.  I may go do some shopping.  I’m going to enjoy a couple of dinners with my hubby and talk to him without anyone interrupting!  I’m going to enjoy my time with the girls gone.  And I’m going to be so happy to see them when they get back!  And we will all be refreshed from our time apart and we will be ready to hit the school work again :)

What are you doing this week?

  5. This is a beautiful post (and is this a new blog design? I love it!). As the mother of two girls, I totally hear you on those teenage years. And actually, I remember when they were 8 and 10…they were so much easier to deal with and I loved their company. And believe it or not, all those teen year battles make your relationship stronger.

Enjoy your quiet time…sounds like you have bunches of good stuff planned! :)

  6. Have fun! Especially the time with your man! I’m so glad the girls and grand parents can do this and trying not to be too wistful that my littles couldn’t just tuck in too.

    I love the teacup!!

It’s seeming like a realllllly long time since I’ve seen my beautiful nieces.

Your girls are so beautiful, so innocent and wonderful. Nobody ever said raising kids thru certain phases was easy, cause it’s not. When my youngest got to be about 11 she was getting to be pretty hard to be around, I had been thru it with her sister so took a lot of deep breaths, prayed a lot and got thru it. Youngest was the hardest of them all. I have to say I think girls are harder, having had 2 boys between the girls. Lots of dramatics, crying, saying I hate you to their Mom’s. OUCH that one really hurts. But even thru it all I wish I could do it again with them, try to be a better mother without emotional, mental problems of my own. You’ve got the heart and right ideas Jill. Keep up the good work.
The time you have without them will be good, for you and your hubs. Couples tend to get so wrapped up with the kids they forget about time just for them. It’s very important also. Just as much as being a good Mother, you two need to remember to be a loving couple, just for you two cause someday those kids are gone and you’d better hope you’ve kept that ray shining between you or you’ll be sitting there looking at each other and wondering what happens now.
You’ll go thru so many different cycles of life, with the kids your hubs.
When hubs and I were married I already had 3 small children. I tried to be very sure we had time just for us now and then as we could afford to do things alone. We’re still together after 45 yrs next month so guess we did something right and we’ve been alone for a few years now.
