The Things I Learned…

culvers

The things I learned the last few days:

  • 7 year olds can be the sweetest little nurses.

card from becca

  • Mixing Sprite with gatoraid is a great way to help settle your sore tummy and re-hydrate at the same time
  • Lysol is a must in every household

card

  • Tummy Tune-up really does help get you through the roughness of the tummy flu
  • My husband is truly wonderful.  We have both learned a little more the meaning of the ‘in sickness’ part of the promise ‘in sickness and health’.

card back

  • Chicken soup can taste like the most gourmet meal ever.
  • Hot running water is truly a wonderful blessing.
  • A comfy bed and fleece sheets are luxury

culvers 2

  • A couch long enough to hold me and my 9 year old is a great thing.
  • However – there IS a need for more furniture in this house.
  • Hot tea soothes the soul – and a sore, recovering tummy.  Just don’t drink it too soon in your recovery.
  • Friends who bring you Culvers when your sore tummy is craving Custard are truly heaven sent.

culvers 3

  • I am ever so thankful that I am rarely ever sick.
  • It had been years since I had the tummy flu.  And I pray it is many, many, many more before the nasty bug even thinks about crossing our doorway again.

Blessings to you all – may your days be HEALTHY!  And may you all have a friend who brings you Culver’s Custard when you need it.

  1. I like this because I know you would do the same thing for YOUR friends in need. And I know this because you have done it for ME! So glad you guys are on the mend.

  2. Sorry to hear you were under the weather, Jill! Your get-well card is priceless, glad everyone took good care of you and you’re feeling better!

A friend who brings Culvers is the best kind to have!! And little nurses are so sweet and caring. Hope that bug flies away and stays away. That little sunshine card is a real day brightener.

  4. I hope you don’t get that nasty bug again either. I had to pick the 8 year old puker up from school today. Poor thing! I am glad your family treated you like a queen while you were sick. That is a very, very good thing- xo Diana

    • Oh poor Nana :( I told my Mom and Dad they were not allowed to come near – didn’t want them to get it. How sweet of you to help out – I know my Mom would have if she would have been needed, she has in the past. Tummy flu is the worst.

  5. I hate the stomach bug! Have you heard of taking charcoal capsules to help an upset stomach? I tried it the beginning of December. I really don’t know how much it helped. When I saw you mention Culver’s on fb, I suspicioned that some custard might show up on your door. I love the get-well card. “I’m having fun. Of course you’re not.” Love the observance!

Being sick does tend to make us thankful for simple everyday things we take for granted. Hot water is soooooooooo wonderful!

  6. Those cards are priceless. If they land in a scrapbook or album they will bring you joy for years to come. I’m sorry you’ve been so sick. Isn’t a comfy bed one of the great joys of life? I’m glad you had such good caregivers and a home sweet home to recover in.

  7. Oh, I’m SO sorry to hear that you’ve been sick! I don’t wish the stomach flu on anyone! I have escaped getting that in a long time (hopefully I didn’t just jinx myself) despite being around my husband that recently had it himself. Do you think you got that terrible stomach virus that they talk about on the news? It’s sweeping the nation. I think it is called the Norra virus? Anyway, I’m glad to hear that you’re on the mend and that your family has done such a good job taking care of you. I hope they don’t come down with it next!

  8. Hope you are all well again! I am praying it stays farrrrrr away from us!!! :/

  9. How do you know you’re feeling better? When you get excited about the NEXT day’s delivery: a $9 chair! “…of course you’re not…) -best get well wishes EVER.

  10. So glad to hear that you are better and loved reading the lessons you learned while being sick. Your sweet little nurse is quite the artist. She must get her talents from you :)

  11. Being sick is so terrible, especially when you have a family to take care. I strongly believe people should stock a closet or a dedicated place to supplies for sickness. All the usual things you would need including tissues, toilet paper, Lysol and the like as well as buckets for sickness (yes!), nausea medication, small refrigerator for drinks, medications and cold compresses. Also fever reducers, thermometers, on and on. Chicken broth that you can heat up in the microwave as you won’t feel like cooking, crackers, etc.
My husband and I have been sick together at the same time two times, most recently a couple of weeks ago. We were totally out of it. You don’t feel like going to the store or to the doctor. I also get bad migraines and these things help with that. I keep cold eye masks etc. in the refrigerator also.

  12. Hope you are on the backside of the stomach flu. The bug is a nasty one. Take it easy and don’t push yourself too much. Don’t want to rebound. :)

    • I’ve been on the go most of the day today Diane – got really tired all of a sudden this afternoon and had to lay down for awhile. You are right – I don’t want to rebound!

  13. Oh no. I’m so sorry to hear you’ve got the bug. It passed through our house but luckily I didn’t get it. (fingers still crossed) I absolutely melted when I saw this card, it’s so precious. Take care my friend.

  16. Hope you’re feeling better! My son has the flu as we speak! Yuck! I’m worn out, running up and down the steps trying to take of him. But he’s getting better too. Have a great week.

    • We are all pretty much over it I think Leslie – now if my teenager keeps from getting it! She’s the only one who didn’t get it. It is so tiring – you either have it and are so sick you can’t move or you are taking care of the ones who have it! My husband was a perfect saint the way he took care of things while I was down.

So glad you are feelinig better. This is nasty stuff. Just sent my youngest grandson back home after a nasty time. He came to see me on Friday last and stayed longer. Just too sick to move. Your cards are priceless. I have some from my children and have framed some in my sewing room. Take care.

  18. What sweet messages! I hope you are all better soon! We had that sweep through last week and now it is sore throats! This is a bad cold and flu season!

    • Thanks Sj! It has been a rather bad season. My teenager was the only one who so far hasn’t had the flu but she has been dealing with a sore throat and yucky sinus issues. Spring will be very welcome!

  19. Glad you’re feeling better! I need to try out that tummy tune-up!

    • Thanks Jenni. I really like the tummy tune-up. It doesn’t always prevent the flu completely but it can really help with the symptoms and dealing with a hurting tummy.

  20. Sorry you were sick! I hope you are all better now. What a sweet family you have. So hard when mom is down. I would trade a month of a bad cold for 24 hours of stomach flu. Ugh, you can’t move when you feel that awful. Hope you are all better for the weekend. -K
