War of 1812

Last weekend on Saturday, when I should have been sewing, I played hooky instead and took my girls to Greenville, the town I grew up close to, for their celebration of the ‘War of 1812′.  They call it the Gathering at the Garst.  There is shopping, food, fun for kids, some soldier reenactments, and cannon demonstrations.  I ‘wore’ my camera like any good blogger (and Mom!)  so I could document the day pictorially.  My Mom went along, and we had a happy day!

Face Painting.  The Teenager got her painting on her arm.

Middle Sister got a snake – can you believe it?!  She tells me almost daily how mean I am cause I won’t let her have a pet snake. (insert eye roll)

Little Sister got a sun.  She can be my little sunshine.  Unless of course there is a dark cloud covering that sunshine!

Chicken…

…and lemonade shake-ups = summertime!

And ice cream!  YUM!

The rat catcher was on the premises keeping the rodents at a minimum.

Fun for the kids – homemade bird feeders.

A game inside a teepee.

Inside one of the buildings in the encampment.

Soldiers.  I think these were off duty.  They were joking with the rat catcher.

Real live cannons!  And they were ‘live’ that day!

Waiting on the cannons to fire.  Plugging your ears when this close to a cannon is not an option it is NECESSARY!

BOOM!  BOOM! BOOM!  BOOOM!!

Do you like war reenactments?  What did you do with your kids last weekend :)

  1. Looks like you had a great weekend and made some wonderful memories. I have to agree with the no snakes as pet rule :)

A real live rat catcher, huh?

  2. My son says the same thing about wanting a snake and I tell him he can have one when he has his own house. Period.

Love seeing all the pics of your girls. Braces on middle sister-doesn’t seem possible. I love that dress on Mother. I’m betting T would’ve liked the booming of the cannons!

My kiddos made bird feeders like that at kid’s time at the library.

Now, I’m wanting a lemon shake-up. Maybe I’ll go make one-I have some lemons that I should use up.

  3. I love seeing your great photos of your girls! (and mom!) I’m not so much for the reenactments, but my husband always wants to go to one, he’s the historian in our family!

  4. So L has a birthday coming up, and we’ve been thinking and thinking… Would you say you’re the sort of mom that supports her kids’ interests no matter what, or you’re more of the unsupportive type?

    • Don’t you DARE give her ANY kind of animal. No way, no how. We live in town – I cannot tolerate any more animals. If it is not dangerous to her, me, or anyone else in the near vicinity I may be able to be persuaded to be supportive! Provided it is NOT an animal.
