I love open shelving in a kitchen. In a LARGE very open kitchen with high ceilings. My kitchen is not large, does not have high ceilings, and has very little cupboard space, let alone room for awesome looking open shelving. But recently I played ‘musical furniture’ again and now my kitchen does have what I suppose you would call open shelving!
You can read this post about how I took the back off of this bookshelf and turned it into open shelving for my glassware. I also show you where it was to start with when it began its new life as something-besides-a-bookshelf. I have played musical furniture for quite a while now! It’s not my favorite thing ever to have furniture sitting in the doorways of rooms but with these 100+ year old houses you have to get creative to find space for storage. It works – and I have some open shelving!
Kitchen scissors that look good laying on open shelving. The plastic handled, kitchen aid scissors are tucked away in a drawer
This letter ‘F’ has been through a lot. It’s been broken twice and it made a little trip to the floor just the other day. I managed to slow its fall before it landed so this time it stayed in one piece.
I am thoroughly enjoying having fresh hydrangea around my house this summer!
My Mom gave me this wire and galvanized container for my birthday. It makes a great umbrella holder and tucked in beside these shelves very neatly. Thanks again Mom!!
The things filling these shelves has already changed since these photos were taken. One thing I really like about having these shelves here, I can quickly grab the pieces I use often, and I can display them too!
Do you like open shelving? Do you have any? Or do you prefer all kitchen items tucked neatly away behind closed doors??

I don’t leave many comments, but the top shelf looks like it might be missing one little vase:) Glad the “F” made it out unscathed….sorry for the wide load that tried to fit by your cute shelving! Enjoy your day!
You have a knack of taking what’s available and making it look great. Always fun to see your posts. I like the touch of lavender and the hydrangeas.
Thanks so much for joining in the bloglovin blog hop. I’m a new follower. I host a weekly link party on Wednesdays and I’d love for you to join in.
is there a special significance to the numbers on the 3 galvanized canisters on your shelves? just curious

If I ever have the pleasure of visiting your house, I would like to walk around with a hot cup of tea and just take everything in. Your house seems so inviting, so interesting, so comfortable. AND, you manage to do all of that and still have it look so stylish. Your musical furniture arrange has paid off. Everything looks great.

I have one odd cabinet that didn’t have a door when we moved in. For the first 7 years we lived here, it was a cookbook cabinet and a catch all. I would always freak out about how cluttered it was. Finally last winter I switched my pretty ivory dishes (same as yours) and cookbooks and now it’s presentable about 95% of the time
) How silly for it to have taken me so long. I’m a minimalist though so it’s just a stack of nesting bowls and an oval veggie dish on top shelf, bowls and 5 cups on middle shelf, plates and silverware on bottom shelf. But it’s clean and streamlined. Love yours.

I love your hydrangeas! And the shelves look great! Neato birthday gift. Mother is so good at birthday gifts!
I like open shelving. Somehow it makes things easier to grab.
I’m also glad for doors for hiding things too!

I don’t know, but don’t ever declutter and get rid of those number mugs without telling me! I have 1,2,3,4 and two crown ones that match them
I would love to find 5-9!!
